In order for insects to come into contact with pesticides, apple growers in China wrapped sacks of white chemical powder all over apple trees. Staff members were forced to wear face gloves and mask to prevent unnecessary direct contact with the chemicals because they used far too much powder. In case you didn’t know, only two out of ten apples in the local market come from local farms.

Over 10,000 people in several German cities experienced severe diarrhea and vomiting after the norovirus was discovered in frozen strawberries imported from China in October 2012. With a market share of nearly 97 percent, China controls nearly all of the processed strawberry market in Germany. Isn’t it surprising?
