Taro

Dasheen, a type of taro, was worth more than $2.3 million in 2014, according to the US Department of Agriculture. Even so, there was an issue with taro: after an hour of peeling, most taro turned slightly yellow or blackish, but some taro stayed white even after being pilled for a long time. These taros were discovered in Wenzhou City, Zhejiang County. According to several reports, some stores used dangerously high levels of sulfur dioxide to keep peeled taro as well as potatoes from discolouration after they were peeled.

Corn

According to the US Department of Agriculture, the US imported about 4.1 million pounds of frozen sweet corn from China in 2009. The imported corn, on the other hand, had a problem: some Chinese vegetable producers used sodium cyclamate, which is banned by the FDA. The maize would retain its vibrant yellow color as a result of the food ingredient. The stated ingredient may harm the liver if consumed in large amounts.
