To reach his goal of bringing the shelter back to life, John set up a GoFundMe page explaining his story. “Hi, I’m John and I need some help restoring a vintage Fallout Shelter that I have uncovered in my backyard,” he wrote. The interior may be in pretty good shape, but John planned on rebuilding the upper entryway with concrete to secure it before moving on to fixing the inside. In addition, he wanted to replace the staircase. We can safely say that the results of this renovation are amazing.

John wasn’t going to just let this amazing discovery go by without him doing anything about it. When he found out it was a bomb shelter, he immediately decided to turn it into a man cave, HAM shack, and a Civil Defense Museum. He began researching the Cold War and what got the civilians of Tucson to build these shelters in the first place. He believed that restoring the shelter could serve as a memorial of the time in history in which it was built. For this reason, he started to find Cold War memorabilia to put on display such as HAM radios, Geiger counters, sanitation kits, and water supply barrels.
