Flags Of Our Fathers
This 2006 war film is based on the New York Times best-selling non-fiction book surrounding the story of five Marines and one Navy corpsman, who is credited with raising the American Flag on Iowa Jima. Although the film didn’t make a dent in the box office, it is still commended for its genuine capture of history.
The Pianist
The Pianist was applauded by all audiences for an impeccable and emotional depiction of this Holocaust survivor, played by Adrien Brody. There was quite a bit of controversy surrounding the director Roman Polansky, but he was adamant about creating the film due to his escape from the Krakow Ghetto in World War II. After his mother’s death, he spent his life in a farmer’s barn until the end of the war.
