In September 18, 1999, Nadya Suleman experienced a horrific event in the psychiatric facility she was working at, and she was right at the center of it. When twenty of their patients at the facility started a riot, Nadya immediately jumped in to intervene. In the middle of all the commotion, one of the female patients made a wooden desk somersault in the air. The said desk, unfortunately, landed on Nadya’s back. She got a herniated disc injury from the incident and earned $170,000 from workers’ compensation. The money helped her get by for a while.
