Interestingly, it was widely believed that Athanasius the Great was the one who chose the 27 books of the New Testament still used up to this day. In 367 A.D., Athanasius made his opinion clear about his picks. He wrote, “No one may add to them, and nothing may be taken away from them.”

Before the rule of Athanasius the Great, there was a huge debate as to what should be regarded as an official part of the New Testament and what was to be left out. And in case there were conflicting decisions, some of the texts in Apocrypha might have still been included in the Bible.
