It didn’t matter to the residents of Les Ventes that Billie was American, Canadian, or even British; what mattered to them was that he had rescued their town, and that made him a hero in their eyes. Billie exemplified what it means to be a courageous warrior by making the ultimate sacrifice in order to save the lives of a great number of other people. He was utterly unselfish in every way. Billie was known for always putting the needs of others above his own, and he enthusiastically volunteered his time. On this terrible day, Billie made the ultimate sacrifice by giving up his right to spend the rest of his life with Peggy so that he may save the lives of others.

Returning To Base
Peggy learned the location of the grave, and she immediately set out to bring him back to their home. It was important to her that Billie be close to her, so she devised a strategy to make this goal a reality. The cremated remains of Billie were transferred to the Normandy American Cemetery. Up to this point, Billie has been spoken with awe and in a way that is really motivational. Simply said, a lot of people adored him, and others owe their gratitude to him. It was stated on CBS that his gravesite is the one in the entire cemetery that has the most decorations and an outpouring of love for him.
