The film is based on real events at the hotel during the genocide of Tutsky in 1994. It tells the story of hotelier Paul Rusesabagina of the Belgian owned luxury hotel, who was credited for her hiding and rescuing 1,268 Hutu and Tusi refugees. His real-life experiences led to the production of the film by Terry George. It received overall positive reviews and was nominated for numerous awards.
