Gladiator

This 2000 epic historical drama was inspired b Daniel P. Mannix’s 1958 Book. While it follows the story of a fictional character Roman general Maximum Decimus Meridius, it still has historical content. Meridius is enslaved and sent to fight as a gladiator because of the horrific rule of the real Roman emperor Commodus. Meridius is forced to work his way up the gladiator ladder to take his revenge on the emperor. While the narrative is fictional, it is based on real events that happened in the Roman Empire in the second half of the 2nd century A.D. Director Ridley Scott’s mission was to create a film that was more accurate than any other before.
