While the Amazon river is a dangerous place for swimmers, there’s the Orinoco river to its north that holds a very different, yet terrifying threat. Other than the usual crocodiles and electric eels you’d have to look out for, there’s a vicious fish called the candiru. It burrows its way into human orifices. Ouch.

Dead Sea, Israel
The Dead Sea, which separates a large part of Israel and Jordan, is a marvel. It is the lowest point on Earth and it also holds a high density of salt which means that you cannot help but float in the water. There are no fish in the water, and for good reasons. If you were to submerge yourself under the water, it could be very dangerous.
