His acting credits include performances in critically-acclaimed and popular films, TV shows, and musicals. At the age of 87, he was involved in a serious car accident where his Jaguar caught fire while he was driving on the freeway. Fortunately, he was rescued by a passerby and was not injured.

Mel Brooks seems to have done everything – from acting to writing to directing and more. Among his many accomplishments is being one of the few EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) winners. Brooks actually started his career as a writer and comic. As a director, he is one of the most successful ever. The American Film Institute included three of his movies in their list of the top 20 best comedy films in the 20th Century. One of the said films was The Producers, which was adapted into a Broadway musical. His son Max Brooks also pursued an acting career and is a published author.
