While attending a party in 1987, Nadia met an interesting man who claimed to have escaped from Romania to USA and had acquired US citizenship. This man was Constantin Panait and he would influence Nadia’s life for both better and worse.

The Only Chance
Nadia had faith in Panait because he produced his American citizenship. He explained how he could help her escape from Romania through Hungary and Austria. Even though it was risky, Nadia wanted to get out of Romania. In 1989 they managed to escape all the way to USA, even flying through Canada first. Ironically, the “Romanian Revolution” took place just weeks later.
