In order to get to the bottom of Billie’s story and find out the truth, Alton had given himself the assignment of searching through the files in the Department of the Army. Nevertheless, when he was granted access to the classified and scattered war papers, he discovered that another person had also been looking into Billie’s record. He was taken aback to see that a young French woman had also been inquiring about Billie and investigating his narrative; he was curious as to who she was.
