Louisa May Alcott
Just like Jane Austen, the author of the famous novel Little Women was also single. Louisa May Alcott’s choice to remain single until death was very controversial in her conservative society. She visited her married friend one time, and after the said visit she described her friend’s “nest” as “very sweet and pretty,” but she added, “but I’d rather be a free spinster and paddle my own canoe.”
Condoleezza Rice
Condoleezza Rice is a well-known policymaker who was also the U.S. Secretary of State from 2005 to 2009. It appears that she has joined number of stubborn and successful women who have chosen not to get married. She was once engaged to the NFL player Rich Upchurch, but that relationship did not last and she has remained unmarried since.
