It is not easy for most stars to make it to Hollywood as they would have to find a way to support their needs while they audition for roles. This was exactly the same for Sam. And his way of doing this? Taking on some construction work. He did it part-time, so he could still audition and have enough money at the same time.

An Outdoors Kid
Sam Elliott was born in Sacramento in 1944 and was raised in Oregon. His father, being a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service employee, influenced him to enjoy the outdoors. However, since the age of 9, Sam already knew that he wanted to pursue acting. This decision, however, was not supported by his father which would later cause tension in their relationship.
