Giving A Warning Through Color
Arkansas passed a law in 1987 that was considered unusual at the time. In addition to installing more classical signs, homeowners were allowed to paint objects on their property a specific color to warn passers-by. Someone would be able to tell if they’d wandered onto private property by accident.
A Lot Of States Participated
Following Arkansas’ lead, nine more states joined, with Florida, Missouri, Kansas, and North Carolina enacting legislation to defend homeowners using the paint method. And, as we’ll see later, another major state embraced the statute in 1997.
