As it turns out, the Tucson area was filled with these kinds of bomb shelters. At the time they were built, it wasn’t seen as overreacting to have one built in the back garden. On the contrary, a man who had one built was seen as a family man just looking out for his loved ones. The nuclear war threat was very real at the time. Aside from this, Tucson had another secret to be unveiled.

Once, Tucson, Arizona was home to 18 different ballistic missiles that were capable of traveling across whole continents. Each one was 110 feet long and 10 feet wide. They were able to destroy an area of 900 square miles, with the capability to be launched in just 58 seconds. At the tip of each missile was a 9-megaton nuclear warhead. So Tucson wasn’t just full of shelters, it was also full of weapons. Obviously, this project was kept a secret. Now that the Cold War is long behind us, there is still the question of whether there are still missiles that were left behind.
