As the interview got underway, the reporter asked Nadya about how meal times work, especially as there are 14 siblings in the kitchen. Nadya explained how because there are so many kids, they all have to eat in shifts. Some even sleep on the couch or do other activities while the other kids eat. It seems as though the family just work together in harmony this way, and it’s pretty heartwarming to see.

As the reporter watched the octuplets weave around the kitchen, he also remarked how they are small for their age, which is understandable. Still, he couldn’t get over how the kids are so ‘polite, they cook, they’re vegan, they read two books a month and do their homework without being prompted.’ So even though the octuplets were embroiled by controversy from the day they were born and ‘in spite of all of the horror stories in the tabloids’, the reporter had to pose the question, ‘they’re model fourth graders. How did she do it?’
