Even before she gave birth to the octuplets, Nadya was already a media sensation. Websites, newspapers and news channels all reported about her unusual pregnancy. People started recognizing her. Even though not everyone knew her real name, they all knew her nickname: Octomom. Nadya attempted to control the story, or at least control what was reported about her. She wanted to use the attention to get the finances to support her big family. After all, she did suffer a lot to get there, so why not make sure that everything was on a positive note? Nadya hired a team for her public relations shortly after giving birth to her eight kids. This was so she could share her story to the public and have some control to it. This task, however, proved to be extremely difficult.

The media attention that Nadya received did not really change after she delivered her octuplets. She gained a lot of critics because of this and they would often accuse Nadya of coveting the spotlight. They even went as far as saying that this was the reason behind all the children she took risks in having. Meanwhile, Nadya had to cope with this public persona that she had earned and raising fourteen kids! As time went by, it became more and more difficult for Nadya to handle her fame. If her pregnancy and the delivery of many children was not controversial enough, she was soon assailed by Californians for wasting the taxpayers’ money, practically everything that would embody the negative aspects of modern American society. She even got threats! However, there were still some who supported her and adored her children.
