Joe DiMaggio (Major Leagues: 1936-1951)

Among the most legendary records in baseball, Joe DiMaggio’s 56-game hitting streak remains elusive. During the summer of ’41, “The Yankee Clipper” was in a zone which no other player has ever found and no one likely ever will. That streak is not everything DiMaggio was about. An outstanding career hitter, he ranks ninth among career slugging percentage leaders and 12th for best OPS records at .9771. While DiMaggio’s career was short, it was extremely productive – he won nine World Series titles within 13 seasons and only lost one time in the Fall Classic.

Honus Wagner (Major Leagues: 1897-1917)

One of the original star sluggers of baseball, Honus Wagner really dominated the league in his era, winning eight batting titles and tying him for the second spot on the most titles in history. His .328 career batting average is the 35th-best of all time and his wins above replacement (WAR) is the seventh-best among all the position players in the history of the MLB, proving that he was quite valuable to his teams. His other impressive stats include ranking eighth all-time in total hits and 25th in total bases. Of course, the pitching that he faced in his time is nothing compared to what today’s hitters are seeing.
