There was one thing on his mind, but he always assumed that it would never come to that. Even so, it felt like he no longer had any other choice.

It was not easy for him to accept the fact that he was losing his job. On the last day of work, he consoled himself by buying dinner at a café that he liked. Jake bought a burger and beer. However, what he saw on the screen only made him freeze.

On the screen, he saw that the FBI was looking for a man that did not look that much older than him. The authorities were looking for him for possession of indecent images. He was allegedly dangerous and armed! It bothered him, but he forgot all about it as soon as he looked away. Well, he did have problems of his own to deal with. After finishing his meal, he paid the bill and headed home. He did not expect that he was going to run into trouble along the way!

He decided to go through the park since it was already late and foggy. The fog was obstructing his view of the path lying ahead of him. As he kept walking, he could not help but think about what the future had in store for him. The truth was that Jake had no one that he could turn to. He sighed deeply and then noticed that there was a man walking on his own at the park! As Jake approached the stranger, he was struck by an idea seemingly out of nowhere. All of a sudden, he knew what he had to do about his current situation. Even though he had some reservations, he knew that this was going to help solve some of his problems. You know what they say: desperate times call for desperate measures.

He took a deep breath and headed for the man right away. As he got closer, his slow steps turned into a sprint. Jake tackled the man and went through his pocks as quickly as he possibly could. He was so desperate that he did not even care about what he was going to find. Once the man was on the ground, he called out for help. It all happened so fast, but Jake managed to get an eyeful of his face thanks to the streetlights. What he saw made him feel sick to his stomach.

When Jake saw his face in the dim light, he could not believe it. Was it really possible that this was the same man whose face he saw on the TV not that long ago? If he assumed correctly, the FBI was looking for him! Despite this, Jake still grabbed his wallet and phone before running off. He made it all the way to his apartment thanks to the fog. As soon as he shut the door, he realized what he had just done.

He headed for his coffee table and put down the man’s items on its surface. Before going through his things, Jake let out a sigh. He felt ashamed of what he just did. Not once did he think that it was going to come to this. However, it felt like he had no other choice. At the time, he just hoped that he was going to pay off some of his debt with some money from the wallet. Jake had no idea that this was going to cause him more trouble than he had in mind.

Jake tilted the wallet and shook it on the coffee table. What was he going to find in it? Once all of its contents were on the surface, he started to go through them. He found the usual things like credit cards and banknotes. But something else caught his eye. The sight of it made a lump form in his throat. This was when he figured out that he bit off more than he could chew!

“No way,” he said under his breath. His palms began to sweat once he saw a particular item inside the wallet. Could this be a joke? He had no idea why this person had such a thing among his personal effects. In the end, Jake knew that the right thing for him to do was to speak to the authorities about it.

Right away, he left the apartment and ran off to the police station. He did not know what to tell them or explain how he ended up with the wallet. The only thing Jake knew was that he needed to report what he found inside of it. He was convinced that they understand once they took a look at the item.

Once he gave a statement to the police officers, he felt like a burden was removed from his shoulders. As he gave the wallet to the authorities, Jake was aware that this meant giving away his own freedom. Even so, he cared about the safety of other people more. The only thing that mattered to him at the time was for the cops to see this object. Like him, they were also shocked when they checked it out.

Inside the wallet, he found the ID of the man in question. This was how Jake realized that the mugging victim was actually suffering from a mild form of autism known as Asperger’s. The moment he saw this, he was filled with guilt and shame. He could not believe that he did such a thing to such a vulnerable person! In the end, this realization made him turn himself in.

According to Jake, he could not deal with the feelings of shame and guilt that came with this revelation. Once he saw the ID card, he knew that he had to bring himself to justice. Anyone could tell that he was not the sort of person who would normally do this. In reality, he just ran out of luck and acted out of desperation. In the end, he was handed down two years of prison time. He still committed a crime, but the judge could not help but applaud him for his honesty! It takes guts to do the right thing.
