Not one to be overshadowed, Dawn Wells, who played Mary Ann, knew she would be compared to Tina Louise, who played Ginger. To make up for her short height, she would wear short shorts and display her legs. And she was brave for doing so as the sitcom was released at a time when it was not even allowed to show the navel on television.

Gilligan’s Island first aired in 1963. So much time has passed since then. Much of the cast and crew, including the creator Sherwood Shwartz, have already died. Tina Louise and Dawn Wells are the only surviving casts.
