He wasn’t there
After cautiously approaching the door, she made her way to the side of the bed that belonged to her father. However, she was taken aback to see that her mother was sound asleep. If this was the case, then it was highly possible that her father was nodding off in front of the television; thus, she made her way downstairs in complete silence. It’s a good thing that Abby didn’t hurt herself when she stumbled over that incredibly noisy floorboard because the television was still on.

When the floorboards began to squeak in such a loud manner, Abby could feel her heart pounding in her chest. She had anticipated that her father would turn around and look at her as she closed her eyes, but all she could hear was a loud snoring instead. When Abby saw that her dad was dozing off in his recliner, she let out a sigh of relief.
He was sound sleeping.
