Walnuts Stuffed With Cement
Markets in Zhengzhou, China, were found to be selling walnuts that had been injected with cement. The merchants were captured emptying the nuts, selling them for a premium, and then filling the shells with cement wrapped in tissue paper before being discovered. The “nuts” were also sold, bringing in more money for the companies.
Honey
China’s honey, at least the sweet sort, is not well-known. In Jinan Province, for example, there are two types of honey, with 70% of the honey being counterfeit. Adulterated honey and phony honey are both types of false honey that are unlawful. Honey, sugar, beetroot, and rice syrup are used in the first, while agave nectar is used in the second. It’s formed of alum and water and appears to be honey on the surface, but it’s not.
