His mother went to bed early one night because her head was throbbing. She’d gone to check on the dog and then dozed off. However, she had been blissfully ignorant that something was wrong. Something was different now. Only the rescue dog had realized there was a serious problem. It was all over the news the next day.

That night, his mother’s apartment caught fire and burned to the ground. But the puppy she’d rescued earlier that day had jolted Rose awake just in time. Rose would have died if it hadn’t been for that dog. Before he died of old age, the dog lived happily with Rose for another eight years. The most bizarre aspect of the story, though, was the dog’s name.
