The Final Straw
Mariano, unsure of what to do, brought the man a drink of water and sat him down. After a few moments, the man had gathered himself sufficiently to explain his bizarre behavior to Mariano. In the last few weeks, the man had been through a lot. He claimed that the puppy was the final straw that broke the camel’s back.

Doing The Best He Could
He then proceeded to tell Mariano a fantastic tale. For weeks, he had been gnawing at the grief of his loss. He’d been doing the best he could with his mother’s estate, boxing up all of her belongings and donating them to charity. It was only her automobile that remained. He’d asked for a sign earlier that day when he drove to the dealership.
