Fu Wengui
At the age of 15, the world found out about Fu Wengui and his struggle with his very long neck. Most people have 7 vertebrae, but he has 10 instead. When his father talked about the difficulties of the young men, he said, “These vertebrae press on the nerves in his neck and make it difficult for him to walk.” What makes it worse is the fact that Fu suffers from rare congenital scoliosis as well. The good news is that a charity decided to pay for the surgery needed to remove the extra cartilage and bone in his body. Based on reports, doctors are now trying to figure out how to carry out a process like that.
Haley Smith
This has to be one of the weirdest entries on the list! By the time Haley Smith was 17 years old, she was of the belief that she was already dead. She had Cotard’s Syndrome, a kind of delusional psychosis. Those who have the rare condition usually talk about the loss of body parts, organs, and/or blood. When talking about the ordeal, she explained, “I’d fantasize about having picnics in graveyards and I’d spend a lot of time watching horror films because seeing the zombies made me feel relaxed, like I was with family.” We are glad to hear that she was able to recover from the condition after getting help!
