Summer Olympics
Four months after the American Cup, Nadia made history in Montreal. The judges stared in amazement as Nadia dominated the arena at the 1976 Olympic Games. Her faultless performances brought about new world records. She received a perfect 10 score! She didn’t stop there, she took another 6 of them as the games continued. Nadia Comăneci became the first gymnast in history to achieve this feat at the Olympics.
Confusion In The Crowd
Omega SA, the makers of the digital scoreboards for the Olympics, didn’t believe it was possible to achieve such a score and therefore hadn’t programmed the scoreboard to display a “10”. What did pop up was a mere “1.00”. It took a few moments before Nadia, her coach and the entire crowd realized what the score really meant to display.
