Arriving back in Romania, she was welcomed like a hero. No other Romanian athlete had done what Nadia Comăneci did. Romanian president, Nicolae Ceaușescu’s administration awarded her with the “Sickle and Hammer Gold Medal” and they called her a hero of “Socialist Labor”. Rumors even spread that the government gave her a family a car and a full month of vacation.

Dedications To Nadia Comăneci

Cinematographer Robert Riger compiled a video montage of Nadia Comăneci in 1976 that showed her performing with a 1971 hit song. The song, “Cotton’s Dream” by composers Barry De Vorzon and Perry Botkin, Jr. suddenly became synonymous with Nadia and even reached the top-10 hit list in 1976. The composers decided to give the song a new name – “Nadia’s Theme”.
