What St. Nicholas Really Looked Like
He’s now referred to as Santa Claus. He does not, however, resemble what you might expect in the slightest. Since he was from Turkey, he was probably darker and more Middle Eastern in appearance than photos suggest. Westerners frequently believe that historical figures resemble them in terms of appearance. Obviously, this is untrue.
Giovanni Battista Sidotti
Apostolic missionary Giovanni Battista Sidotti was born in 1668. He traveled to Japan to spread Christianity. He wore a samurai disguise because he knew this was risky back then. He was apprehended and imprisoned until his death in 1714. He is regarded by many as “the last missionary.”
