Super Embarrassing Wardrobe Malfunctions In Movies That Prove Were All Human

After all the massive amount of work that goes into making some of the biggest budget films out there, it’s rather surprising when we still find hilarious and sometimes silly errors in them. Whether the issue is the time period, the setting or just some mishap the cast or the editors did not notice, it’s quite enjoyable to poke fun at them, especially since it’s their jobs. Luckily for us, fans, or maybe trolls, are out there ready to expose every flaw that they can see in our beloved movies that we hadn’t noticed before. It’s hard to think the directors missed these blunders in their own films, but who are we to judge. We also missed these mistakes the first time, right?

Troy: Umbrellas Didn’t Exist Then

The flamboyant sunshade that we see protecting Bloom in Troy isn’t only splitting our sides but is also simply inaccurate. The umbrella’s actual invention only goes as far back as the 5th Century BCE, just some years after the Battle of Troy happened.

Pulp Fiction: Bullet Holes Appear Before the Shootout

Pulp Fiction has become a fan favorite since 1994. Some of the best one-liners came out of the movie and they still remain as relevant today as they were back then. Even though Quentin Tarantino successfully reeled movie-watchers in, there were a few small errors in the film. If you pay close attention to the shootout scene when Vincent is reciting Bible verses, you’ll notice that there are already bullet holes in the wall behind him.

Back to the Future: This Guitar Didn’t Exist Yet

Marty McFly is the punk skater who went on to become the epic time traveler who did everything he could to ensure that his mom and dad would get together for the reason being that he needs to be born. This feel-good movie makes us all reminiscent of our youth and well, bad CGI. In the unforgettable ‘1955’ scene, Marty kills a guitar solo on an impressive Gibson. However, this piece of musical instrument would only be invented in 1958. Maybe the guitar is a time traveler as well?

Pretty Woman: Vivian’s Gown Changes Length

Well, here’s a big mistake from Pretty Woman. In the film’s epic first kiss between leads Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, there is one flaw that somehow made it to the final cut. Basically, the scene starts out with Vivian wearing a white nightgown that is obviously long. However, by the scene’s end, the white nightgown has become rather short.

Pirates of the Caribbean (The Curse of the Black Pearl): Redcoats – No Such Thing Then

The Curse of the Black Pearl seems to have its history all mixed up. There is no way that those pesky “Red Coats” could be possibly around since the movie is set sometime during the 1720s. The red coats, on the other hand, didn’t exist until 1747.

Singin’ In the Rain: A Pink Dress? No Chance

We know it still hurts to even mention the late-great Debbie Reynolds, yet here we are. Needless to say, the Singin’ in the Rain’ actress played the character Kathy Selden and wore “that” pink dress. However, there is actually one small mistake there. You see, the iconic dress is reminiscent of the ‘50s while the movie is set in the late 1920s.

Forrest Gump: The Iron Keeps Moving

Who could possibly forget the incredible Forrest Gump movie? People’s eyes were filled with bittersweet tears when they watched this 1994 classic. Despite the emotional element of this movie, there was a plainly-visible mistake. From one shot to another, the iron board in the background changes from lying down to standing up when Forrest is with Jenny, the love of his life.

Titanic: Rose’s Beauty Mark Switches Sides

When Titanic made its way into theaters in 1997, it garnered massive success. It even broke numerous different world records. But even with such great achievements, the movie still managed to have a pretty obvious mistake. A beauty mark is supposed to be permanent, meaning that it shouldn’t move, unlike how it moved from one side of Kate Winslet’s face to the other.

La La Land – Wrong Shirt

When shooting the same scene on different days, it’s easy to encounter different problems, and the wardrobe is one of them. Mia and Sebastian are involved in a road rage incident and at the time he is wearing a brown shirt. However, when he returns to his apartment and has a conversation with his sister, he has a blue shirt suddenly. Later on Sebastian plays the piano and once again has the brown shirt.

Thor: Green Powder Gone

Bruce Banner and Thor race through the crowd in order to escape. As they’re managing to fit into the crowd, Banner gets hit in the face with a bright green powder. However, in the next scene it somehow disappears without a trace. You can’t see the substance on his face or on his clothing.

Pretty Woman: Edward’s Tie

Another big mistake from Pretty Woman. In this scene, Vivian is in the middle of watching I Love Lucy when she decides to go up to Edward. She undoes his tie, then she goes back to watching the show. In the next shot, however, Edward’s tie is done back up, then it is undone again. We wonder how this made it to the final cut. Well, it is possible they thought no one will notice.

Captain America (The First Avenger): Hair Needs To Be Up Here

Despite the fact that she is stunningly gorgeous in the first installment of Captain America, Peggy’s hair style was just not appropriate for the army. While it certainly fits the period, which is during World War II, it was actually a requirement for women serving to pull their hair up, tie it back and keep it off the collar.

Zootopia: Different Shirt

When editors are chopping and changing scenes in a movie, it’s a challenge to make sure that everything turns out right. In the scene where Judy puts “Carrots for One” into the microwave when she gets home, you can see her wearing a pink t-shirt. Later when she sits down to eat dinner, she has a her uniform on again. The scene where she was changed into something more comfortable was taken out.

Dirty Dancing: Baby’s Shorts Needed To Be A Skirt

Set in 1963, the film surely takes us on an epic ride that evokes a sense of nostalgia in every one of us who have seen it, except maybe those who noticed that Baby was wearing denim shorts that just came into fashion later, during the ‘80s. However, we’d like to think that this dance drama made our hearts melt because of the love story it tells. We’re quite sure that we are all still trying to emulate the cool moves up to this day at home wearing just our undies.

Wonder Woman: Clean Boots

Even the best movies can have mistakes, as we can see from Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman, played by Gal Gadot, runs through a field where bullets are flying. The field is full of mud and she should be covered in mud after having sprinted through it all. In the next shot, her boots are as clean as a whistle.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button: Modern Sunglasses

It is undeniable that the motion picture The Curious Case of Benjamin Button has a storyline that is seriously confusing. In addition to that, it also has a rather silly mistake in the wardrobe department. Brad Pitt can be seen sporting some Ray-Ban sunnies in a scene set in 1945… However, Ray-Bans were first made in 1952, so?

The Mummy Returns: Meema’s Skirt Is Not Battle Friendly

In The Mummy Returns, the battle scene between Anck Su and Nefertiri is quite something. However, the impressive fight scene in Pharaoh’s chambers quickly lost credibility when the ladies’ undergarments showed brand tags which were certainly not from that period. Too bad.

Captain America (The First Avenger): The Headset Didn’t Exist Yet

Now, despite our opinion of the level of cool this movie has, the radio earpiece that was worn by Jim Morita under a hat is a bit out of place. For the uninitiated, the system was only designed much later, in the year 2000, definitely far off from the military use in World War II.

Legends of the Fall: Brad Pitt’s Blonde Hair Was Too Perfect

Pitt, as per usual, is a stunning sample of a cowboy in this coming-of-age tale. Set in the early 20th century, he portrays Tristan Ludlow, the rock of his classic farm family. However, his hair is heavily styled the sixties way and it was paired with a shoddy shave job which would’ve never passed back in those days. In addition, it’s quite difficult to take the placement of the period seriously.

Pride and Prejudice: Rubber Boots Didn’t Exist Then

Based on Jane Austen’s classic novel, this beautifully written tale stars Kiera Knightley and has become a well-directed cult classic. We found one issue, though and that is the Wellington boots that Kiera wears in the film. Why? Well, they weren’t invented until over 40 years later.

Raiders of the Lost Ark: An Extra Is Actually Wearing Jeans

If it was only jeans and the t-shirt and not the film’s setting, we could most likely get over it. However, the fact that the movie is set in 1930s Egypt, it means that the random guy in the back sporting jeans…is, well, wrong.

The Ten Commandments: Nefertiri’s Dress Is Just Too Advanced

This classic biblical movie from 1956 is actually among the most successful movies ever made. It shows Anna Baxter playing the character Nefertiti wearing a stunning blue dress, which, with regards to the time the film is set in, has a hue that was impossible to achieve with the use of natural tints. Yet, she still stole the show, along with everyone’s hearts and minds when they saw her in the gorgeous dress.

Gladiator: Crowe’s Lycra Shorts Don’t Make Sense

Out of all the mistakes in the wardrobe he had, spandex lycra shorts under his iconic leather outfit are a bit disappointing. In addition, it’s not really a stretch when we say that they were not readily available in ancient Rome. As a matter of fact, you don’t have to be a history buff to know what we are saying is true.

Baywatch: Swimsuit

Baywatch was definitely one of the TV shows we really liked growing up. However, there was a lot of stuff going on off screen which we hadn’t known about, like the fact that not all the members of the cast could actually swim. Can you imagine how difficult it must have been to shoot some of those scenes?

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: Nazi’s Shouldn’t Be Wearing Medals

The Last Crusade is set around 1938, when the full-scale war had not started yet. We all know that this film has borne the brunt of plenty of movie related funnies. Not everything is unfounded though. During that time, the Nazis didn’t really wear medals – especially a lot. It only became the norm towards the end of the war.

The King’s Speech: Wrong Kilt

Colin Firth never really received true credit for his performance in the breathtaking experience that is The King’s Speech, which surely captivated us all. In addition, looks like kilt experts also have a bone to pick with the film. They somehow spotted that the kilt design he wore just dates back to the year 1997 and not the correct period, PLUS it is Irish and not Scottish Balmoral. Still, credit should be given where credit is due.

Glory: A Digital Watch During the Civil War, Really?

This is definitely one of the headslappers on this list. Taking place during the American civil war, with an amazing cast of Matthew Broderick, Carl Elwes, Denzel Washington, and Morgan Freeman, the watch unfortunately seems almost like an insult to the cast. You see, wristwatches were not introduced until the 1920s, let alone the digital kind.

Public Enemies: A Robe That’s Too Advanced

Taking place during America’s the Great Depression era, Depp kills it as John Dillinger, the bank robber extraordinaire. However, we spotted a flaw – the fact that the high quality and flexible material with light fibers that today’s jackets are made of were not available back then. Thus, it is hard to believe that after commandeering it from Judge Murray, Depp would sport the jacket in the getaway, making it look like the garment was super light. Judges’ robes at that time were much more rigid and heavier. Dead giveaway, right?

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves: Telescope Didn’t Exist Yet

In one scene, Freeman and Costner whip out a telescope. Even though not a lot of people caught it, the optical device still didn’t belong in the film because it wasn’t invented until around the 1600s. Even a variation of the device would not be readily available, quite compact and handy during the 12th century, which is the setting of the movie.

Almost Famous: The Black Sabbath T-shirt

A film which hits us with the right amount of teenage feels, everyone is sure to remember this timeless classic about youth in revolt. It is jam packed with hilarious anecdotes in addition to having Kate Hudson in the cast. However, the unfortunate appearance of a Black Sabbath t-shirt somehow made it to the final cut. The shirts weren’t made until around 1997, while the movie takes place in the early 1970s.

Pearl Harbor: Bare Legs Weren’t Appropriate

Now, some films actually do their research and create period appropriate attires but there are some that don’t. Whether this is cinematic genius or just simply trying to be scandalous, the female characters in this film can be seen not wearing stockings with skirts, a huge no-no at that time. It’s too revealing.

Braveheart: Gibson’s Scottish Skirt Was Totally Premature

It’s safe to say that we are all familiar with this critically-acclaimed and award winning motion picture in some way or another, whether it’s through memes or pop culture, so it’s just fair to take a bit of a shot at it. The film supposedly takes place during the 13th century yet the Scots only really started wearing kilts during the late 1500s. Sorry William.

Django Unchained: Sunglasses Didn’t Exist Yet

Tarantino produced the exact same thing we all hoped for – the decade’s payback film. Grossing roughly $300,000,000 worldwide, this amazing flick still has flaws though. Case in point: Django sporting a pair of specs that weren’t invented until 1929. In spite of this bungle, the sunglasses still went on to become a fad up to this today.

The Untouchables: Lapels Didn’t Exist Yet

THE gangster busting film of the eighties and the nineties, The Untouchables, with De Niro as Al Capone and Costner as agent Elliot Ness, is a movie for the ages. Even so, the trolls managed to find a snag with the suit Ness wears. They noticed that it had lapels, which were only introduced around 1989. Clearly, the mark was missed on that one tiny piece. Nevertheless, it takes away absolutely nothing from the epic film.

The Other Boleyn Girl: Portman’s Hair Needs To Be Pulled Back

In spite of having two of the most stunning women in Hollywood, Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson, a tiny error in the period clothing that they sport in the film can still be noticed. During that period, french hoods were donned in a way that women pulled their hair back and hid it under a veil.

Saving Private Ryan: The Case Of The Black Boots

We don’t know about you but there wasn’t a dry eye in the room when we watched this epic war and action film, which has been regarded as one of the greatest war films ever made. In spite of this, there were still a few mishaps making the scenes seem real, like the black boots that Matt Damon is seen wearing in the film, especially during the final battle. You see, black boots were only introduced in the 1950s and they were worn by the airborne.

Catch Me If You Can: Braces Didn’t Exist Yet

Tom Hanks, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Amy Adams starred in this fun film which takes place in the 1960s and follows a fraud artist and an ambitious swindler through the years of his shenanigans. It made its way onto our list because of the fact that Amy wears braces which were only introduced in the ‘70s, a bit later than the movie’s setting.

The Tudors: Wearing Ruffs Is Scandalous

When looking into period pieces, it is quite hard to catch every detail of the period such as ruffs worn by women around their necks in this historical drama. Wearing them without an undershirt was not an acceptable fashion statement and instead was considered inappropriate or rather scandalous for the 1500s.

Good Night and Good Luck: Name Tags Equal Nope

A mistake with name tags resulted in this great film having a spot on our list. The movie is about a conflict between a journalist and a US senator which supposedly takes place during the ‘50s. The film shows some military officers dressed rather casually and wearing name tags which were not introduced until the late sixties.

American Hustle: No Rolex Watches In The 70’s

Such a tiny flaw in an otherwise epic film that is jam packed with incredible acting and a killer cast. Unexpectedly, it is the flashy 2010 Rolex that Louis C.K. sports which is out of place with regards to the movie’s seventies’ setting.

Amadeus: Mozart’ Sippers Didn’t Exist Yet

This biographical look into Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s life during the 18th century is not without errors. In fact, this film shows the same mistake – involving zippers – again and again. Zippers were visible despite the fact that they would not be invented until one hundred years later.

The Color Purple: Clip-on Ties Didn’t Exist Yet

This motion picture tells the story about the lives led by African American women who lived in the south during the 1930s. It is based on the novel by Alice Walker. Even though it isn’t a big catch in wardrobe, there is still a snag. In the film, Danny Glover can be seen sporting a clip-on tie in a scene set in 1916. However, this kind of tie wasn’t invented until ten years later.

Gangs of New York: Firefighters Modern Uniforms Don’t Make Sense

The huge cast and their incredible performances may have made this film’s mistakes hard to notice, oh but they were definitely there. Here’s one that stood out – the firemen wearing modern garb instead of the early fire gear used during the period. Not that inconspicuous anymore when it’s pointed out, right?

Schindler’s List: Women Didn’t Shave Then

This is one tear jerker that’s hard to shoot down since it is very emotional and dark to watch for many of us. A peculiar wardrobe mess-up can be seen in such a big-budget motion picture, though. Women in the 1930s and the 1940s, especially those who were in concentration camps, didn’t really shave their arm pits or legs. Therefore, the hairless women who are seen in the film make that reality a little less visible.

Julius Caesar: Bullet Bras Didn’t Exist Yet

During the 1950s, bullet bras were among the most iconic pieces of lingerie that existed. It was the norm to wear such pointy bras, especially for women of high stature. Despite this, wearing such stylish undergarments should be impossible for the characters of Julius Caesar, which is set in 44 BC. You see, that’s around 2000 years before the bullet bras were even invented.

My Girl: Mood-rings Didn’t Exist Yet

Anna Chlumsky. Macaulay Culkin. My Girl. Be still my beating heart. In this brilliantly heartbreaking 1991 film, Vada has an absolutely cool mood ring. However, these bad boys were actually invented in 1975. The film, on the other hand, is set in the year 1972. Mind readers, anyone?

Sense and Sensibility: The Baby’s Diaper

Well, guess there are worst things to be concerned about than just a diaper. Actually, the problem isn’t the fact that a diaper made an appearance in Sense and Sensibility, it’s more like what kind it was. The one in the film is way too modern for the 19th century setting. We’re pretty sure cloth was used in diapers back then.

The Doors: Ray Ban Sunglasses Didn’t Exist Yet

The Doors follows Jim Morrison and the epic rock band of the ‘70s, The Doors. As you know, Val Kilmer plays the legendary singer and you can see him throughout the film sporting Ray Ban sunglasses. They look great on Kilmer, but wearing them was a mistake since they were only produced during the ‘80s.

The Wedding Singer: Barrymore’s Haircut = 10 Years Later

Yup, everyone’s favorite ship, Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, makes the list. Even though we don’t really like nitpicking The Wedding Singer , we must. The adorable haircut that Drew Barrymore sported was an absolute ‘90s fashion trend. However, it has no place in the flick seeing as how the film takes place in the 1980s.

Picnic at Hanging Rock: Again Hair Makes The List

Picnic at Hanging Rock is set in the early 1900s, but you might think otherwise because of the style the actresses had in the film. Their hair was down, straight, and they had a middle part – more like what you see in the ‘70s. However, in the early 20th Century, women styled their hair up and had some light tendrils. So you see, you can’t really blame us if we are confused.

The Informant: Nike Golf Spikes Didn’t Exist Yet

Nike released golf spikes in the year 1996. However, you can see the actors in the film sporting the said footwear. This would have been perfectly fine if the movie wasn’t set between the years 1992 and 1994. Whoops! Someone had a slip-up.

The Last Samurai: Tom Cruise’s Armor Was Too Old

Tom Cruise – a name that could get people to go to the movie theater ASAP. Therefore, when The Last Samurai was released, his name was enough to peak people’s interest. The film follows a retired American officer who encounters samurai warriors in Japan. One thing is off, though. The armor which Cruise dons is too old. As a matter of fact, it’s 250 years too old! His armor existed 250 years before the time period he was in.

Seabiscuit: Strapped Helmets Didn’t Exist Yet

Toby Maguire’s character in the film is a jockey who often dons a strapped helmet. However, such headgear didn’t exist until 1956. He should not have been able to wear one since events in the movie happen during the Great Depression. Either we need another history lesson or we’re totally missing something.

We all knew Allie and Noah would end up together. However, before they finally did, Allie had been engaged to Lon, who suffered horrible war wounds. There Will Be Blood: Waffle Shoes Didn’t Exist Then

There Will Be Blood follows the story of a miner in the late 1800s and how he went on to become an oil magnate. Daniel Day-Lewis plays the miner-turned-magnate and in the film, he wears waffle soled boots. Thing is though, those only started to exist in the ‘70s, when Nike created them.

Pompeii: No Purple Capes

It is unfortunate that some of the Pompeii generals, including Kiefer Sutherland’s character, wear purple capes. There’s nothing wrong with that, right? Wrong. Historically speaking, Nero, the reigning Emperor, had actually put to death anyone that dared to wear the color purple besides him.

Ben Hur: The Star of David

Jack Huston stars in the movie adaptation of the novel Ben Hur: A Tale of the Christ. It seems the actor didn’t have a clue that he wasn’t supposed to wear the Star of David. Despite the fact that it was a rather powerful sight to behold, it wasn’t accurate since the first records linked to the Star of David were not found until the 12 century. Huston wearing the star is certainly out of time.

Unforgiven: Belt Loops

We’re willing to let this one go, only because the amazingly talented Clint Eastwood directed this 1992 Western film. Eastwood, Gene Hackman, and Morgan Freeman are just a few of the names that are part of this critically-acclaimed and massively popular film. Despite its success, we couldn’t help but get confused when we saw Gene Hackman’s character sporting belt loops. The movie was set in 1880 Wyoming, but belt loops only became popular in the ‘20s. Things just didn’t add up.

Quadrophenia: Band Didn’t Exist Then

The film shows the rivalry between the British rockers and the British mods. In addition the movie’s setting was in the ‘60s yet one person can be seen sporting a Motörhead T-shirt. The rock band wasn’t formed until 1975. Coincidentally, that is the year when they filmed the movie. However, this is one mistake that is quite easy to avoid. Too bad they didn’t catch it.

The Great Escape: Trendy Clothes

Steve McQueen could not escape being questioned for the questionable fashion choices in this film. Even though the movie is a tale of British Commonwealth prisoners of war escaping from Germany during World War II, the actor donned khakis and a cut-off shirt. Makes us think that the film was set in the ‘90s, which, of course, wasn’t.

Where Eagles Dare: It’s The Hair

Set during World War II but filmed in 1968, this movie stars Richard Burton, Clint Eastwood, and Ingrid Pitt. Even though it appears that the producers have made a war movie that is loved all over the globe, it looks like they have also made quite a big mistake. They styled Pitt’s hair in ‘60s fashion. The actress plays a German waitress named Heidi. Not very period orientated, don’t you think?
