Peggy was stationed at a base in Texas, and Billie’s home was in San Antonio, which was a considerable distance from the base. Hence, the only option left for the two of them was to write letters to one another. Once they had first met one another in person, they continued to write one another on a frequent basis. Because of these letters, they had become the best of friends, and when more letters arrived, their emotions did as well. Once some time had passed, Billie began to ramp up the amount of flirting she was doing, and soon enough, the two were officially courting.

The new couple really performed everything exactly as it was specified that they should do. After that, Billie popped the question to the woman he loved, Peggy, and she accepted, of course. On September 22nd, 1943, the couple exchanged vows and became husband and wife. The Sunshine State served as the setting for their wedding. The couple had no idea what challenges were waiting for them in the future; all they could do was hope that their love would be enough to carry them through. It’s almost as if the difficulties started happening right away…
