Let’s go back to the very beginning and figure out how it was that these two lovebirds ended up crossing paths. Peggy began her career as an electrical instrument mechanic at the Altus Oklahoma Air Force Base at the early age of 18. Peggy had no idea that she was about to meet the father of the guy she would eventually fall in love with, and she did not prepare herself for the encounter. In addition to working on the base, Billie’s father held the position of assistant supervisor there. When Billie’s father and Peggy’s father met paths, Billie’s father immediately saw that Peggy was the lady he wanted for his son. Peggy stood out from the other girls because, despite her intelligence and beauty, she possessed a mysterious quality that set her apart from the others.

Women were not frequently hired for this position, particularly in the 1900s when the norm was for women to stay at home.
