A lot of the dialogue scenes in the movie are actually based on real telegrams, letters, and phone calls between the two main characters.

A black police officer infiltrating the KKK sounds like something that’s too dangerous to be true, but that’s what really happened to Ron Stallworth. He was the first black cop in Colorado, and with the help of a white narcotics officer, he infiltrated a KKK chapter and brought it down from the inside. Most of the events in the movie are pretty accurate.
