In our culture, we knew that Jesus looked like a white man with facial hair and dressed in a white or cream robe. It was a piece of common knowledge for some people who believed in him. We thought he looked like the ones on those paintings, images on the books, or the teaching of the church. We assumed the information was right. However, a historian and a professor at the King’s College named Joan Taylor had proof that Jesus did not look like the imageries that we saw from different places.

Is There Any Evidence Of What Jesus Looked Like
Why Do Historical Painters Portray Him Like This?
Why would most painters draw the appearance of Jesus when he had a different appearance when he was alive? Through some research, the painter who made images on those past centuries created a living painting of various gods. However, when Jesus became a famous person in that period, the painter composed an appearance of the Messiah in his idea and resulted in this imagery we could find in different places.

In our current era, some historical experts who researched Jesus noted something was not factual. They spotted different images about the accessories the Messiah was wearing. The images did not match the proper era that he was living because of the evidence they caught. If we thought about the painting of Jesus while he had a halo above his head, or he would sit on a weightily decorated royal chair. However, this description did not make sense. When Joan Taylor studied the Kings of Kings, she discovered Jesus’ appearance was a simple and ordinary man.

What Is Written In The Bible?
Some religious people would tackle what was written in the Bible. They would even argue with other religious groups to show their proof. Their argument was about the appearance of the Messiah and how he looked in that period because of the evidence found in the Bible. Clues were telling us what he appeared in that era. Some descriptions were telling us Jesus was an average man that would not stand out in the spotlight. He seemed to be like the other man who was living a normal life during those days.

What Is Written In The Bible?
Unclear Explanations
There were some vague explanations we could not gather other evidence that could portray the appearance of Jesus. A century ago, some artists used poetic license and different kinds of painting to make their desired portrait. Also, some artists did not only portray their desired image, but they also painted their style on that day to express their symbolic meaning.

Unclear Explanations
The Good Shepherd
Allegorical painters made an image of Jesus in the grassland while there were a lot of sheep. The idea of the painters was making the Messiah “the good shepherd.” That meant to be the shepherd of his people. Being a shepherd meant to be reflected as a suitable appearance as a leader were people would follow his lead even though this image of Jesus was painted in the age of the early Roman. Many images were found in the city of Rome that was distant from the homeland of Jesus.

The Good Shepherd
The Picture Is In The Stone
The aspect of the idea about Jesus was a bearded Caucasian that would be accepted by the middle period. However, the picture of the Messiah being a good shepherd became the most famous appearance of Jesus in our age. He appeared wearing cream or white clothes, long-haired, and bearded man. It was the image we could see on some imageries in this current period.

Connecting Images
Most historical painters did not find any illustrative report in the Bible. Even though it should help them make a guide of what the Messiah looks like. It was the reason that painters wanted to create an image of Jesus on their model. However, they connected the photos at the previous work of painters to make similar imagery of him.

Connecting Images
An Improved Image And Feature
Nowadays, artists made an improved image and feature of the old paintings to create a new but similar appearance of Jesus. It was the method of the artist to produce their ideal images. When they generated their ideal product of the Messiah, they would base the primary subject on those who created the first image, and young artists would manage to follow the same concept.

An Improved Image And Feature
Original Work Of Art
It was the example of what we intended to say; on the image of Zeus statue, he appeared as a mythological god with long hair and beard, which was comparable to Jesus. Even the clothes that Zeus was wearing was a white robe. This image amazed us in every aspect and made them remember his story in mythology when we see his images. Every painter wanted to make their original features but would make the people feel the same way with the other illustrations.

It’s Not The Same
Even though the image was a complicated figure, there were still some artists who were amazed at how “Zeus” had been made. If we look at the images that were created in the age of egotistical Roman Emperor Augustus, we could see that the emperor wanted to be more like Zeus. However, if we looked at it more closely, the imagery did not look like the emperor himself.

It’s Not The Same
Somehow The Same With Zeus
The Roman Emperor Augustus required his sculptor to make a few details of him because his real appearance would not be comparable to the finished product. His manifestation was a short hair and clean-shaven man. However, people in that era wanted to see complicated things. To make that kind of imagery, he desired an image that made his hair and beard the same with Zeus.

The Last Supper
The Historian Joan Taylor gathered any evidence and gave her idea about Jesus. She said that the Messiah would never sit on that kind throne. It might be popular with the people in our current period. However, it would never portray the real image of Him while he was living. It was not always a fact that we could tell if it was true, even though this was the imagery that was known when he was with his followers doing the last supper.

The Modern Look
There were reports in these illustrations that made the historians curious. There were some concepts that the original work from those artists had been altered. It made us think that it was the real image of Jesus, but it was not. Historians pointed out that artists developed their work to make the person or the image into an evangelical theme. There was an example of those pictures that had been changed like the sword had been redecorated as a bible, the central figure was decorated to make it look like an absolution for other people and many more.

The Modern Look
The Perfect Image
Even after all those years, people expected every image of Jesus to look similar to the old ones. Even the outline, facial aspects, and also how he wore a white or cream robe. Sometimes some paintings had a halo over his head. There were many different ideal images of the Messiah that were created by various artists. Jean stated that many people wanted to see Jesus as a holy being.

The Perfect Image
Mighty Features
The outcome of the image was that the artists wanted to make Jesus as a holy being. If we thought about some superheroes in our era that we saw in the movies or the period of Roman people and Greek gods, then we could say that having long hair could mean a sign of power. It made the same meaning in our current era, where we could see illustrations that had the same feature as a mighty person. The features of the Messiah that had similarities with other characters that meant to be as powerful as He was.

Is He Just An Ordinary Human Being?
There had been some proof from the authorities that were making the appearance of Jesus with the same image during those prior periods. It could make His features more natural to identify than the rest of the people who were in the illustration, and because of this, many could tell that he was the Savior or just an ordinary human being.

An Evidence Of What He Really Looked Like
In those past centuries, there had been evidence that was saying the shroud of Turin was the Jesus Christ’s burial shroud. There was also some proof that they had found a clear picture of his body. Among those indications, some artifacts were found in that location that could give more signs about the real appearance of the Messiah.

An Evidence Of What He Really Looked Like
Some Philosophers Question The Evidence
In America, there was a historian and a lecturer that was uncertain about the evidence of the shroud. He said that in those past middle ages, scamming a person had occurred on that day that we could relate in our current era. He thought that the proof of the shroud was just a scam by the other people who were believing the Messiah used it. He also said that fraud would have a religious penalty, and this was a way that would give money to the scammers.

Some Philosophers Question The Evidence
What Does He Really Look Like?
Even though we could not trust some illustration from the medieval era, Joan, with her group, had studied different ancient relics like the old papyrus scrolls that were used in ancient Egypt, and they would observe remnants found in the burial sites. It was their way to find out what was the appearance of Jesus in that period. They thought that it was the best way to verify the form of the Messiah when He was still living in this world.

They Have Different Fashion Statement
With her team, Joan was determined to find what was the appearance of Jesus in the time where He was still living. She tried to conclude what other common men were wearing during that period. It could have a chance that He also was wearing this kind of clothing in his daily life. In that period, a person who was living in that era was wearing a different type of cloak that was not in a fashion manner. There were many clergies and royal families we could see in that era that was wearing similar attire, but we could not see it in our everyday life. The Bible stated that John the Baptist had different kinds of clothing. However, it did not mention the clothes that the Messiah was wearing.

What Is He Wearing?
After learning about the scrolls and illustration in the period of the ancient Egyptians, the historian discovered what kind of clothing an average person would wear when Jesus was still living in this world. There were some accurate descriptions of the type of clothes that ordinary people were wearing on that day.

What Is He Wearing?
The Tunics Are Not Long
When Joan had found some evidence in this era, she thought that some average men wore a tunic. However, it was not long enough that it would be similar to the illustrations. All men who were living in that period were dressed in a knee-length tunic. It made them more flexible when they would perform their daily work efficiently. Any clothing that was longer than those tunics was impractical to the wire, especially when they were doing their job.

The Tunics Are Not Long
Only Upper-Class Can Wear Full-Length Robes
Joan also found that there were various classes of people living in that era. Most of the upper-class would sometimes wear full-length cloaks or robes. It could mean that they were boasting their social status, and they did not need to work to live in those days. The historian thought that this would be another evidence about what the Messiah looked like. Jesus did not wear that kind of robes because he was just a modest man.

Only Upper Class Can Wear Full-Length Robes
The Color Is Dull
The evidence showed that Jesus did not wear that full-length cloak or robe like those upper-class people who were living in that era. The Messiah was wearing a knee-length robe like the other average men. However, would the color of his robe be comparable to the images that we could see in our era? Investigations showed that in that era, there were no methods to whiten the color of the fabric. It means it would be impossible to make the color of the savior robe into white. Most tunics in that period were created from the material called plain wool. In the Bible, statements were telling us that the clothes he was wearing would be dye in white and shiny color when He became a divine being.

The Color Is Dull
Decorative Elements
There were additional features from the illustration showing Christ was wearing a blueish cape or a veil dressed over the robe. However, why did His robe or mask was colored a different shade of blue? There could be a meaning of why it was portrayed in a color of blue. Historians had no explanation about the color of his clothes. They even thought that it has no meaning at all.

Decorative Elements
Not A Traditional Mantle
Some many different illustrations and films portray the crucifixion. We could see in the film that Jesus wore a short tunic and a cape. Historians assumed that the robe that the Messiah was wearing was not a traditional mantle but a kind of prayer mantle. We also watched the movie, or we could see on different pictures of the crucifixion that He was wearing that kind of garment.

Not A Traditional Mantle
Not One But Two
Historians even thought that Jesus had two different kinds of prayer shawls. There were descriptions in the Bible stating that the Messiah removed a scarf to bathe his devotees’ feet, and he was also wearing another cloak when he was praying.

Not One But Two
What Shoes Is He Wearing?
The historian Joan Taylor even verified what kind of shoes Jesus was wearing. There was evidence telling us by the remnants of the relics that just uncovered the location. The Messiah that lived in the area in that period had left many pieces of fabric that became their proof of what type of shoes He was wearing. After some tests, they found that it was a form of the sandal. This time, Joan guessed that this was the equipment that the Savior had used to protect His feet when He was still living.

Outward Features
After all the results, we would still want to know what the appearance of the Messiah was. We would gladly see what He looked like when He was still living. Even in the illustration that was in the book of portraits that we could find everywhere, we should somehow distinguish what He looked like. There was some proof on the mummified remnants that were observed in the homeland of the Savior. The remains had two facial qualities, one was Grecian, and the other was Egyptian.

Similar Features
In some illustration and specific images had improved our understanding of the facial features of Jesus. There were portraits on some Egyptian mummies displaying some facial description. The historian thought that these remnants of mummified bodies were considered people living and died in the same era as Jesus. These imageries were the best evidence to prove how accurate the similarities feature of the Messiah.

Preserved Pieces Of Evidence
There were still some steps that we could find that was His appearance, like observing other pieces of evidence that they got in an ancient synagogue. This object could help us determine the features of Jesus. The proof that had been found was in the stunning old place of worship, where they saw some preserved pieces that could help them identify the Savior.

Preserved Pieces Of Evidence
Remains Of Moses
The unknown object might end the argument of different people once it had been analyzed. However, it turned out that the remnant located in that area was not from Jesus. It was from the remains of Moses. The question was how this piece of evidence could solve the real appearance of Jesus.

Remains Of Moses
Same As What Moses Is Wearing
The historian Joan stated that the imagery of Moses was an example of an average man who was living in that era where Jesus was still living. If we could think Jesus had similarities to Moses like He was wearing the same type of clothing that Moses was wearing, this means that it is comparable to the clothes that Jesus wore.

Same As What Moses Is Wearing
They Have Different Hairstyle
However, I jumped to the conclusion that Moses had different features because he had shorter locks, and his facial was clean because it was shaven. That proof that was discovered did not have any similarity to the other imageries that we could see in our era even though this illustration had been created by the ideals of the painters that had long, straight locks that meant womanly or a divine entity.

Thanks to the Intricate Painters
After all the investigation on the relics and evidence, Joan Taylor had discovered that in those past eras, some sophisticated painters were right about their facial hair. They might have a very long or bearded face because of their travel. They could not find something that could shave their face clean during their journey. When Jesus and his followers had traveled across different lands, their facial hair would grow longer or begin to get bushy because of the time that passed by. It might be the reason why Moses also had an illustration where he had a beard on his face.
