The Shawshank Redemption

This movie is easily considered to be one of the best movies of all time. Film critic Roger Ebert stated that it “is deeper than most films; about continuity in a lifetime, based on friendship and hope.” Shockingly, this film was not a hit in theaters, even though it received tons of award nominations. Despite the slow, uphill battle to make viewers love the movie, cinematographer Roger Deakins ended up winning the American Society of Cinematographers award for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography. 21 years after the film came out it was recognized for preservation in the National Film Registry.
