Slumdog Millionaire
Slumdog Millionaire was the kind of film that American viewers didn’t realize they needed in their lives to enrich their cultural and international knowledge and awareness for issues. The film is all about the lives of a set of brothers who are growing up in the slums of Mumbai, India. Simon Beaufoy, the screenwriter of the film, tried to dive deep into the culture so he could ensure accuracy of what he was portraying on-screen. The film won an Academy Award for Best Picture, amongst others, and made $377 million!
Schindler’s List
Schindler’s List is one of the films that is based on a novel, which is where many great movies come from, as it has an amazing script to work off of already. Steven Spielberg’s directing skills mixed with Steven Zaillian’s writing skills made this movie unforgettable in every way. The movie is about Oskar Schindler and his world-altering journey to save thousands of Polish-Jewish refugees from their fate of getting taken during the Holocaust by hiring them to work at his factory. The camerawork and music by Itzhak Perlman is what makes this film nearly perfect and definitely unbeatable.
